My Favorite Breakfast Casserole

Over the past few weeks I have been perfecting a pretty basic breakfast casserole, but one that is easy to prepare and definitely a crowd pleaser.  I began by using Kevin & Amanda's breakfast casserole and adapting from there...

Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Breakfast Casserole
An easy and delicious dish to take to just about any event!
*1/2lb. hot breakfast sausage
*1 tube packaged crescent rolls
*7 eggs
*1/3 c. half & half
*salt & pepper (to taste)
*2 tbsp softened butter
*1/3 c. ricotta cheese
*1-2 green onions, diced
*6 slices American cheese
*2 c. shredded cheese (whatever you prefer)
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Brown, drain, & finely crumble hot sausage
3. Whisk eggs, half & half, salt & pepper, butter, ricotta, & green onions in medium mixing bowl
4. Roll out crescent dough in a greased 9x13 baking dish (do not separate into individual crescents - leave as one large sheet)
5. Pre-bake dough in 350 degree oven for about 5 minutes
6. Remove dish from oven and top with crumbled sausage & slices of American cheese
7. Pour egg mixture over top sausage & cheese; top with shredded cheese
8. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes, until center is firm
9. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 5-10 minutes or until edges are brown
